About

The Partners of Virginia Capital are “freshwater” investors (and fisherman). We invest in small growing companies in the South Atlantic – smaller “freshwater” markets. Half the U.S. venture capital is concentrated in three metropolitan areas – all saltwater ports (New York, San Francisco and Boston) and most of that VC dough is concentrated in a small group of funds. Most of the venture capital discussion centers on the activity in these saltwater ports. But most of the startup activity happens across the country in its varied freshwater streams and lakes. There are 20 times as many angel and small VC investors as there are mega-funds. Most of the money for new startups comes from this freshwater group of investors who back more than 20,000 small companies each year compared to the 1,000 or so funded by the saltwater investors.

We believe there are just as many watering holes and approaches to fishing as there are fishermen and so we decided to start this dialog about fishing for attractive small businesses in our skinny, slow moving freshwater streams.

Thanks for visiting with us.
